Lakes, Parks, & Beaches

We often get asked, "What is there to do at your Peek N' Peak Ski Birdie Lodge outside of skiing, golf, and wineries?" My best response is hidden gems. There are so many off-the-beaten-paths to explore. From quaint Findley Lake down the road, to the sophisticate charm of Lake Chautauqua, the beautiful beaches of Lake Erie and even day trips to Niagara Falls- If you enjoy being outside and around water in the summer, then you will enjoy the area in and around Peak N' Peak Resort and our Ski Birdie Lodge. Read on to hear more about our personal favorites.

Findley Lake

A ten-minute drive from our house or refreshing 30 minute bike ride through the countryside. Along with the lake, there are small shops including Our Own Candle Company, a Marina, Twin Docks Market with homemade everything and restaurants, Alexanders on the lake, and Pine Junction a little further down the road.

Krasa's Cove on Findley Lake specializes in ridiculously delicious homemade ice cream in a variety of unique flavors. Visit the Findley Lake Website for more information.

Lake Chautauqua

A 25 minute drive from Peek N' Peek and our Ski Birdie Lodge, Lake Chautauqua has a lot of sophisticated charm, starting with the world renown Chautauqua Institute every summer. Bemus Point is a great place to walk around enjoying the breathtaking views while dining in places like The Village Casino, Ellicottville Brewing, or The Fish. Shopping, two state parks, several marinas, and even the National Comedy Center can be found circling Lake Chautauqua.

Lake Erie

The western New York and Eastern pannhandle of Pennsylvania include several hidden gems in their parks and beaches, all of which are within 30 to 45 minutes drive from Peek N' Peak and our Ski Birdie Lodge. Shades Beach Park, for example includes boat slips, plenty of parking, a beach and playground.

Presque Isle State Park is a giant peninsula jutting out into Lake Erie with a spectacular drive that follows the land form. Bike trails, multiple beaches, picnic areas and a light house all make for a great day of picnicking and outdoor activities. You can also visit the retro Waldameer Park which is situated at the entrance of Presque Isle for some summer amusement park and water slide fun. Dock your boat or get outfitted at Presque Isle Canoe & Boat Livery as well as Port Erie Sports.

On the New York side, visit Barcelona Harbor Beach and Lighthouse. Great for fishing and scouting for colorful sea glass. Views of a waterfall can be seen on this quiet, secluded beach.

Niagara Falls Day Trip

Way underrated, the New York side of Niagara Falls allows you to immerse yourself in the organic beauty of this natural wonder without all the commercialized distractions. An easy two-hour drive from Peek N' Peak and our Ski Birdie Lodge is all it takes to enjoy a breathtakingly spectacular view of the falls from Niagara Falls State Park. Pack a cooler, bring your walking shoes and bikes and plug Goat Island into your GPS (GPS address: 24 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14303). Once here, you are steps away from as about as close as you can get to the falls without going over.

Follow the paved walkways for different vantage points, footpaths over Niagara River and plenty of things to do like Cave of the Winds or Maid of the Mist. Visit Whirlpool State Park for spectacular views of the natural whirlpool and rapids. Take a two mile flat hike up the Niagara Gorge hiking trail enjoying scenic views all the way and then hop on the Discover Niagara Shuttle to get back to your car. Awe-inspiring views, trails, and so much to discover makes a Niagara Falls day trip one of our all-time Ski Birdie favorites.
